The devastating impact of Cyclone Remal in Mizoram continues to unfold as recovery efforts persist. The state has been grappling with the aftermath of the cyclone, which has claimed the lives of at least 29 individuals. Among the victims is a 34-year-old woman named Vanlalruali, who was recently confirmed dead.

The catastrophe, triggered by heavy downpours, has left communities across Mizoram reeling in its wake. The state has been facing the brunt of the cyclone since Monday night, with widespread damage reported in various areas.

Vanlalruali, a resident of Aibawk village located approximately 29 kilometers south of Aizawl, was one of the 34 individuals reported missing in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal. A search and rescue operation conducted by local authorities and village volunteers led to the discovery of her body near Hortoki village in Kolasib district on Friday morning.

The identification of Vanlalruali’s body prompted a somber gathering of relatives and community leaders in Kawnpui. After a process of confirmation, it was determined that the deceased was indeed Vanlalruali, wife of Matthew Lalchhanhima, adding to the tragic toll of the cyclone.

Over the past week, the Aizawl District Disaster Management Authority (ADDMA) officials, along with dedicated volunteers, have been tirelessly searching for missing persons in the affected areas. While the recovery of Vanlalruali’s body has brought closure to one family, the search continues for four individuals from the Melthum neighborhood of Aizawl city and one more resident of Aibawk village.

Additionally, a body was found floating in the river Tlawng near Mualkhang and Khamrang villages, adding to the grim aftermath of Cyclone Remal in Mizoram.
