A tragic incident unfolded in Lebanon, Linn County, where a 49-year-old man, identified as Gino Anthony Marcoccia, was shot and killed by a Linn County deputy. The fatal encounter took place on Speasl Road during a reported domestic dispute involving a firearm.
The authorities were alerted to the situation around 8:15 p.m., prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Upon arrival, officers found Marcoccia outside the residence, brandishing a rifle and allegedly refusing to comply with their commands to drop the weapon.
As the tense situation escalated, Marcoccia reportedly advanced towards one of the deputies with the rifle in hand, prompting the law enforcement officer to take decisive action. The deputy fired at Marcoccia, causing him to collapse and relinquish the weapon. Despite receiving medical attention at the scene, Marcoccia succumbed to his injuries.
Fortunately, no law enforcement officers sustained any injuries during the confrontation. The Oregon State Police (OSP) has initiated an investigation into the incident, with the involved officers being placed on paid administrative leave as per standard procedure.
