LYNNWOOD, Wash. – A man has been taken into custody for vehicular homicide following a tragic incident in which a one-year-old child was struck and killed as he was pulling into a driveway in Lynnwood.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Beverly Park Road in the Picnic Point area.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found first responders providing aid to the child, who tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the child was playing in the front yard with two siblings and their parent when the fatal accident occurred.

Detectives revealed that a 45-year-old man, who was a roommate at the residence, arrived home and accidentally struck the child while pulling into the driveway.

The man was promptly arrested and has been booked into Snohomish County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide. Authorities also conducted tests on his blood for intoxicants.

Investigating detectives disclosed that the man was impaired by a depressant and marijuana at the time of the incident, which likely played a role in the tragic collision.
