The Delaware State Police have apprehended 26-year-old Keenan Brown-Meads of Claymont in connection with a shocking incident of sexual assault and carjacking that took place on Wednesday night in Claymont.
According to authorities, the distressing event unfolded on May 29, 2024, at around 11:55 p.m., prompting troopers to rush to a residence on Philadelphia Pike following a distressing report of a sexual assault and carjacking.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers were briefed that an unidentified black male suspect had targeted the victim as she was stepping out of her parked vehicle. The suspect proceeded to subject the victim to both sexual and physical assaults, forcibly dragging her out of her car before making off with the stolen vehicle, as per police reports.
The victim, an adult woman, was promptly taken to an area hospital for treatment and was later discharged after receiving medical care for her non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities shared that Brown-Meads was swiftly apprehended in Pennsylvania shortly after the disturbing incident. In the early hours of Thursday, at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers from the Tinicum Township Police Department in Pennsylvania spotted the stolen vehicle near Philadelphia International Airport and carried out a traffic stop.
Upon closer inspection, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was identified as Keenan Brown-Meads and was subsequently taken into custody by Tinicum Township Police. Following thorough investigative efforts, Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Detectives were able to establish Brown-Meads as the prime suspect responsible for the assault and carjacking.
Upon being extradited to Delaware, Brown-Meads is set to face a slew of charges, including Rape 2nd Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, Unlawful Sexual Contact, Attempted Strangulation, and Assault 3rd Degree, all of which constitute serious felony offenses.
