A St. Louis County man is facing serious charges after a chaotic incident involving drunk driving and endangering lives. Tyrone Cherry, Jr., 31, has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and resisting arrest following the events that unfolded in north St. Louis County.
The situation began late Wednesday evening when police received a call about a possible burglary in the 200 block of Midlothian Road. However, upon arriving at the scene, it was revealed that the disturbance was actually caused by Cherry, who was the intoxicated boyfriend of the homeowner’s daughter.
Police attempted to intervene and asked Cherry to leave the premises due to his intoxication. Ignoring their warnings, Cherry got into his car and attempted to drive away. In a reckless move, he drove towards his own father, who was riding a moped on the street. Fortunately, his father managed to jump off the moped in time to avoid a collision, but the moped was damaged in the process.
As Cherry continued driving, he then turned his car back towards the officers on the scene. Police had to draw their firearms and point them at Cherry to prevent him from causing further harm. One officer even had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit by Cherry’s vehicle.
After narrowly avoiding a collision with the officer, Cherry abandoned his car and began banging on the homeowner’s house. He was eventually apprehended by the police and taken into custody on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
The St. Louis County Police Department’s North County Precinct is currently investigating the incident and ensuring that justice is served in this dangerous situation.
