An 18-year-old Grade 9 student, identified as Sam Eleccion Yanong, was apprehended by the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit-7 during a buy-bust operation in 1st Street, Singson Village, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City. The young suspect, who is considered a High-Value Individual Drug Personality, was found in possession of 70 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of ?476,000.

Prior to the arrest, law enforcement authorities received intelligence regarding the illegal activities of the suspect. Following a two-week surveillance operation, it was discovered that Yanong was capable of distributing up to 100 grams of shabu per week in Guadalupe and neighbouring barangays.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had previously engaged in selling fruits. However, faced with business failure, he sought the guidance of his incarcerated uncle on delving into the illicit drug trade. Despite admonitions from his parents, Yanong persisted in his unlawful activities until his apprehension by the authorities. He is currently detained and will be charged with violations of Republic Act 9165.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes in Cebu City and its surrounding areas. The arrest of Yanong serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in the fight against illegal drug trafficking.
