Virginia State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic pedestrian accident that took place in Goochland County, resulting in the death of a safety inspector who was working in a construction zone.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, on Patterson Avenue, just east of Westcreek Parkway in Goochland. Reports indicate that a dump truck was involved in the collision with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian has been identified as Safety Inspector Dennis Wayne Parton II, hailing from Newport News. Parton was carrying out his duties in the construction zone when the accident occurred. A 2007 Kenworth Dump Truck, operated by a 47-year-old man from Montross, was reportedly manoeuvring into the milling area of the construction zone when the tragic incident unfolded.

Tragically, as the vehicle was backing up, it struck Parton, causing fatal injuries that led to his untimely demise at the scene of the accident. Virginia State Police have confirmed that Parton succumbed to his injuries on site.

The investigation into this devastating incident is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to gather all necessary information to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
