Accident – Death – Obituary News :
A 47-year-old man has been handed a life sentence for the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend, Cari Allen, in Nebraska. The tragic incident unfolded when Allen returned to her home from a date with another man, only to be fatally attacked by Aldrick Scott. Scott then went on to bury her body on abandoned farmhouse property near his residence in Kansas before fleeing to Central America, where he was ultimately apprehended by authorities in Belize.
Scott was convicted of first-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and tampering with physical evidence in relation to the 2022 murder of Cari Allen. The severity of his actions was highlighted during sentencing, with Douglas District Court Judge Kimberly Pankonin remarking, “It was clear that you could not handle the breakup with Cari Allen. Your obsession fueled the heinous crimes you have been found guilty of.”
Brett Allen, the victim’s ex-husband and father of her child, expressed deep anguish over the traumatic loss, stating, “Just because you desire something you cannot have, resorting to such extreme measures and impacting numerous lives is incomprehensible. To subject individuals to such pain and harm, especially someone you purportedly loved, is beyond my understanding.”
During the trial, Scott offered a defense claiming that Allen had brandished a gun at him, leading to a struggle that resulted in the weapon discharging accidentally. He then fled the scene in a state of panic.
Investigators revealed that Scott had traveled from Topeka, Kansas, to Omaha, Nebraska, on November 19, 2022, following the recent breakup with Allen. After gaining access to her residence through the garage, he carried out the fatal assault. Subsequently, he transported her remains over 160 miles to Kansas, where he buried her on an abandoned farm in Topeka near his own residence.
The case came to light when Allen was reported missing, prompting a thorough investigation that identified Scott as a person of interest. It was discovered that Scott had left the country after the crime, leading to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest on kidnapping charges.
Scott was eventually apprehended in Belize on December 6, 2022, thanks to a tip from Shalton Fuentes, the owner of a barbecue restaurant who had provided him shelter. Fuentes disclosed crucial information to authorities, detailing Scott’s involvement in the crime and the circumstances surrounding Allen’s death.
The remains of Cari Allen were located on December 21, 2022, at a farm property near Scott’s residence in Topeka, Kansas. Investigators were led to the site by location data from Scott’s SUV, obtained from OnStar records, which indicated his presence at the location following the murder.
During the trial, jurors were made aware of threatening messages exchanged between Scott and Allen prior to her tragic demise. Allen had informed him that she was out with a friend that evening, prompting a confrontational exchange between the two.
As previously covered by Law&Crime, Allen was fondly remembered by her colleagues at Vodec, an organization dedicated to providing services for individuals with disabilities. A statement on the organization’s Facebook page highlighted Allen’s significant contributions, describing her as a beloved figure within the disability community.
