SILVER SPRING, MD – Authorities are currently looking into a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday evening in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation into a fatal collision that took place at the intersection of University Boulevard East and Buckingham Drive.
At approximately 8:14 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a 2018 Audi Q5 and a 2013 Honda CR-V. The Audi was travelling eastbound on University Boulevard East when it collided with the Honda, which was attempting a left turn from Buckingham Drive onto University Boulevard East. The impact of the collision caused the Honda to strike a tree.
While the occupants of the Audi escaped unharmed, the driver of the Honda sustained injuries that were initially thought to be non-life-threatening. Tragically, the driver, identified as 79-year-old Adolfo Cabrera of Silver Spring, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday while receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is still ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident.
