A man known as Kabiru Musa, also referred to as Dawa, has been apprehended by the police for his role in orchestrating the 2011 post-election violence that resulted in the deaths of six corps members and a policewoman in Giade Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Following the 2011 presidential election, supporters of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) engaged in violent acts to express their discontent with the election outcome. This led to a tragic loss of at least 50 lives, including serving corps members.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, confirmed this significant arrest on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Kabiru Musa was paraded alongside other suspects arrested for various criminal activities.

Gruesome Murder of Aisha Mohammad

The arrest of Kabiru Musa was linked to the brutal killing of a 17-year-old girl named Aisha Mohammad in Giade Local Government Area. The discovery of Aisha’s decomposed body in a well by water vendors in Unguwar Tudun Maje area of Giade town on April 26, 2024, prompted the police investigation that led to the arrest.

The commissioner detailed the events of the 2011 violence, where Kabiru Musa, also known as Dawa, and his accomplices attacked the Giade Divisional Police Headquarters, causing the death of F/No. 020827 W/PC. Rifkatu Bappa and setting ablaze a vehicle belonging to Mr. Peter Okoye.

Kabiru Musa and his gang also targeted Bridget Peter Okoye, resulting in severe injuries, and ruthlessly murdered six corps members who sought refuge at the police station during the violent attack.

The arrested suspect, Dawa, had been on the run for a decade before being apprehended. The investigation into his involvement in the 2011 post-election violence continues, with plans for his court appearance pending the completion of the inquiry.

Arrest for Culpable Homicide

In a related development, Kabiru Musa, alias Dawa, faced charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide for his involvement in a separate incident that occurred on April 26, 2024. The discovery of the body of an adult girl in a well in Unguwar Tudun Maje led to his arrest, along with another individual named Anas Adamu.

The police investigation into these crimes aims to bring justice for the victims and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. The residents of Bauchi State await the conclusion of these legal proceedings to provide closure for the families affected by these heinous acts.
