Accident – Death – Obituary News : An 18-year-old man from Idlewild has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man from Baldwin over the weekend. Marquavis Darnelle Cager appeared in court and was charged with open murder, with a bail set at £1 million cash or surety bond.
Lake County Prosecutor Craig Cooper has stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and he is unable to provide further details about the events leading up to the shooting at this time. A probable cause conference has been scheduled for June 13, followed by a preliminary hearing on June 17.
According to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on Saturday, May 25, around midnight, outside Peyton’s Bar and Grill in Yates Township. Deputies responded to reports of a shooting and found the victim, Rashad Hawkins, shot multiple times and lying in the road. Unfortunately, Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cager, the suspect, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Another individual, 41-year-old Lee Williams from Idlewild, was arrested for resisting and obstructing officers at the scene.
