A shocking incident took place on Wednesday at the VTA Children’s Discovery Museum station in Downtown San Jose when a man was viciously attacked on a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) platform. The disturbing assault was captured on video posted by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, leading to the arrest of the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Andrew Perez.

Details of the Attack

The attack occurred around 1:12 p.m., with the video footage revealing the suspect approaching the 45-year-old victim and launching a sustained assault involving punches and kicks for over a minute. The victim, who was left covered in blood from head to belt, was promptly attended to by SCCSO deputies and subsequently hospitalized for treatment. Thankfully, he is now reported to be in stable condition.

Arrest of the Suspect

Following the attack, Perez, who was reportedly wearing an armored vest, fled the scene. However, law enforcement officers were able to track him down at his residence near the site of the incident. After barricading himself inside, Perez was eventually apprehended by authorities.

Victim’s Account

The victim, who had no prior acquaintance with Perez, informed the police that he believed he was assaulted with a sharp weapon. He sustained significant injuries, including an 8-10-inch cut on his forehead, as well as cuts on his elbow and wrist.

Legal Ramifications

Upon reviewing the video surveillance footage of the attack, SCCSO noted that Perez appeared to have used an unidentified weapon during the assault. As a result, Perez has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of body armor during the commission of a felony, and interfering with safe transit operations.
