SALISBURY — A man has been charged after police said he fled in a vehicle following an attempted break-in of multiple cars on Wednesday.
Law enforcement officers were alerted to the 1300 block of Keystone Drive around 4:30 a.m. after receiving reports of two individuals trying to gain access to parked vehicles, according to Major Justin Crews, the public information officer for the Salisbury Police Department. Upon arrival, officers spotted a vehicle leaving the scene.
As officers tried to identify the vehicle and its license plate, the driver accelerated at a high speed, evading the police pursuit. The chase led south along U.S. Highway 29, culminating at the intersection of N.C. Highway 152 in China Grove.
At this location, law enforcement apprehended the driver, identified as 18-year-old Ke’shawn Omarion Mason, along with a juvenile passenger.
Mason was taken to the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office, where he faced charges including felony conspiracy to commit a crime, felony breaking and entering into vehicles, felony possession of stolen goods, felony evading arrest, misdemeanor property damage, misdemeanor contributing to juvenile delinquency, misdemeanor child neglect, misdemeanor dangerous driving, misdemeanor excessive speeding, and misdemeanor driving without a valid license.
Crews revealed that the possession of stolen goods charge stemmed from officers discovering that the vehicle Mason was driving had been reported stolen.
Mason was remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center and was granted a £105,000 bond by Magistrate Benjamin Franklin.
The juvenile involved was also charged and detained at the Cabarrus Regional Juvenile Detention Center, as confirmed by Crews.
