Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A suspect is facing charges of attempted murder following a brutal assault at a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority platform on Wednesday, as reported by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office has identified the suspect as 26-year-old Andrew Perez, who has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of body armour during the commission of a felony, and interfering with safe transit operations.

The attack was captured on a surveillance camera positioned above the VTA platform and has been made public by the sheriff’s office. The video does not include audio.

The footage shows two individuals on the platform—a man with platinum hair, identified as Perez, and another man with a bicycle. Initially engaged in conversation, Perez, the alleged perpetrator, suddenly strikes the man with the bike in the face.

Subsequently, Perez forcefully throws the victim to the ground, kicking him in the head. As the victim tries to escape, Perez places him in a chokehold.

The video footage then transitions to a different angle, presumably from a second camera on the platform. Perez proceeds to unleash a relentless barrage of punches and kicks. The video concludes with the victim fleeing the platform, with Perez seemingly in pursuit.

The video also suggests that Perez used an “unspecified weapon” to assault the victim, according to the sheriff’s office. However, no bladed weapon was discovered at the scene.

The victim sustained an 8 to 10-inch gash on his forehead, requiring seven staples for closure. Additionally, he had a 4-inch laceration on his elbow and another on his left wrist, although he is currently in stable condition.

Law enforcement confirmed to KTVU that Perez fled the scene and sought refuge in a nearby residence post-assault. The sheriff’s office revealed that Perez was wearing a protective, armour-plated vest. Following an extended standoff, involving resources from the San Jose Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, as well as the San Jose and Campbell police departments, Perez was apprehended.

The sheriff’s office has indicated that there is no apparent prior connection between Perez and the victim.
