ROURKELA: A devastating incident unfolded at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) as 10 individuals, including six women, tragically lost their lives to suspected heatstroke within a mere seven-hour span on Thursday. The scorching temperatures in Rourkela peaked at a sweltering 44.9°C during the day, exacerbating the dire situation.
Details of the Deceased
The deceased men, aged between 23 and 70 years, were identified as Ranjit Sahu (23) from Madhusudanpalli, Ganesh Tanty (37) from Jhartarang, a 50-year-old male from Sector 2 (unidentified), and a 70-year-old man from Railway Colony. The six women who tragically passed away were named as Manju Barla (38) from Chhend, Muni Kumbhar (54) from Hatibari, Fulmani Badaik (30) from Jalda A-Block, Mangala Samasi (69) from Jalda C block, Bicha Mahali (40) from Jhirpani, and Sabitri Goud (40) from Tumran.
Official Statement
Ganesh Prasad Das, the director of RGH, Rourkela, expressed, “Out of the 10 patients, eight were received dead, and two succumbed during treatment. They are suspected to have perished due to heatstroke, although the precise cause of death will be ascertained following the post-mortem examinations scheduled for Friday.”
