A man who authorities say drove the wrong way on State Route 87 near Fountain Hills and crashed into another vehicle, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives, has been taken into custody.

The fatal collision occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on the morning of May 26 close to milepost 187.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a tan 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes when it collided with a white 2001 Ford F-150.

The driver of the F-150 sustained life-threatening injuries, while the three other occupants of the truck tragically lost their lives in the devastating crash.

The individual behind the wheel of the Avalanche has been identified as Jose Serrano-Orduno.

Court documents reveal that Serrano-Orduno’s blood-alcohol level was recorded at .249, significantly above the legal limit.

The 41-year-old has been placed under arrest and is facing charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and endangerment.
