Accident – Death – Obituary News : The body of 34-year-old man Pierre Pearson, originally from Georgia, has been discovered in the Columbia River by two fishermen, as confirmed by the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office. The remains were found near Martin’s Bar in Woodland on June 2, 2022. Pearson, who was believed to have been living without a permanent home in Portland, Oregon, was last in contact with his family in April 2021, over a year before his body was recovered from the river.
Despite efforts to identify the cause and time of Pearson’s death, authorities have been unable to ascertain this information. The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office conducted an examination of the remains, which showed no signs of trauma. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, facial identification and fingerprint collection were not possible. Additionally, no identification was found with the body.
In December 2022, detectives began collaborating with Othram, a private laboratory in Texas, to conduct advanced forensic DNA testing in order to identify the man. Eventually, Pearson’s dental records were obtained after reaching out to his stepmother and father. A forensic odontologist utilized these records to confirm the identity of the remains as belonging to Pearson.
Chief Criminal Deputy Troy Brightbill stated, “There is no indication that Pearson died as a result of a crime. The investigation will be closed.” The Coroner’s Office will now coordinate with Pearson’s family to arrange for the release of his remains.
