LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – The Lansing Township community is mourning the loss of firefighter Johnathan Allen Esch, who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run crash in Clinton County. A celebration of life service has been announced to honor his memory.

The incident occurred when Ashley Monroe allegedly struck Esch and his family members with her car in Watertown Township on May 18. Tragically, Esch’s family member, Daniel Harris, also lost his life in the crash, and 14 others sustained injuries.

Monroe has since been arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including Operating Under the Influence Causing Death.

The Lansing Township Fire Department paid tribute to Esch, describing him as an extremely compassionate and knowledgeable paramedic, as well as a highly respected firefighter.

The celebration of life for Johnathan Allen Esch will take place on Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at 2|42 Community Church, Lansing Campus. Those wishing to honour his memory are encouraged to make donations to the Big Lake Humane Society, where Esch adopted his beloved dog, Mochi, in lieu of flowers.
