The deceased individual found in the waterway near Old Highway 90/Burnout Bridge in Vinton has been officially identified as Garrett Harrell Jr., a 33-year-old man hailing from New Orleans.

According to Kayla Vincent, spokesperson for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, the body was located around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning and subsequently retrieved by the Marine Division of the Sheriff’s Office.

At this early stage of the investigation, Vincent has stated that it remains unclear whether there was any foul play involved in the circumstances surrounding Harrell’s death.

The investigative process is ongoing and authorities are diligently working to gather more information to determine the cause of death.
