The Chillicothe Police Department has provided additional information about a pursuit that took place on Monday, culminating in a dramatic crash into a home on the south end of Chillicothe, Ohio.
Reports from the Chillicothe Police Department indicate that officers first spotted a black Nissan travelling in the wrong direction on East Fourth Street. Upon attempting to pull over the vehicle, the driver accelerated at a high speed, prompting a chase that wound its way through the city streets, reaching speeds exceeding 70 mph.
The chase continued down South Sugar Street, then onto East 7th Street and South Bridge, before the driver ultimately lost control and crashed into a residence at 214 South Walnut Street, causing significant damage to the front of the property.
The driver, later identified as 22-year-old Thomas Burdette, fled the scene on foot. Ohio Highway Patrol troopers joined the search for Burdette, during which officers discovered drug paraphernalia inside the crashed vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle involved was borrowed from a friend’s grandmother by the suspect’s grandson, who then allowed Burdette to use the vehicle and failed to return it.
Despite initial efforts to locate him, Burdette managed to evade capture temporarily. However, on Tuesday, police successfully apprehended him. Details surrounding his arrest have not yet been made public.
