The Police Command in Lagos State has apprehended a 21-year-old woman, known as Blessing, for the alleged theft of a one-month-old baby boy. The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
According to SP Hundeyin, the mother of the baby, whose identity remains undisclosed, reported the incident at the Elere Police Division on Monday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. The distraught mother recounted that on Saturday morning around 7:00 a.m., while she was asleep at home with her infant, Blessing purportedly absconded with the child.
Following the abduction, the suspect allegedly proceeded to a nearby church to testify falsely about giving birth to the baby. Fortunately, law enforcement officers were able to track down Blessing to the Agbotikuyo area in Agege, where the infant was safely recovered.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the case to ascertain the motives behind the heinous act and to ensure justice is served. The swift action taken by the police in apprehending the suspect and rescuing the child highlights the dedication and efficiency of law enforcement in safeguarding the community.
