Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Investigators have determined that an “altitude drop” was the cause of the mid-air turbulence that led to one death and multiple injuries on a Singapore Airlines flight. The incident occurred during flight SQ321 from London to Singapore, which was forced to divert to Bangkok due to the severity of the turbulence.

The probe, conducted by Singapore’s Transport Ministry and joined by officials from the US and Boeing, revealed that the flight experienced an altitude drop of 178 feet (54 meters) and fluctuating gravitational forces. The report, released on Tuesday, shed light on the events that unfolded during the flight.

On Monday last week, the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members encountered severe turbulence that resulted in the tragic death of a 73-year-old British man. The passenger is believed to have suffered a heart attack during the turbulent episode.

During the turbulence, the pilots were alerted by the cabin crew about the injured passengers on board, prompting the decision to divert the flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. Approximately 17 minutes after the turbulence event, the pilots initiated a controlled descent from 37,000 feet (11,277 meters) to ensure the safety of those on board.

Despite the harrowing experience, there was no further turbulence encountered during the descent. However, the aircraft sustained significant interior damage, causing injuries to passengers who were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the turbulence.

The investigation into the incident continues as authorities work to understand the factors that contributed to the altitude drop and fluctuating gravitational forces experienced during the flight. Singapore Airlines has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased passenger and continues to cooperate with the authorities in their investigation.
