The recent double-murder/suicide incident in Statesville has left the community in shock and mourning as the names of those involved have been released by the Statesville Police Department.

The harrowing events unfolded on May 24, when the police received a distressing call about a shooting incident in the 100 block of Bunker Hill Lane. Upon arrival at the scene, officers were met with a devastating sight – 26-year-old Simone Octavia Williams was found lifeless on the front porch of a residence, her body bearing a fatal gunshot wound.

Witnesses at the scene recounted that the shooter was identified as 39-year-old Nicholas Goolsby, a resident of Bunker Hill Lane. After the fatal shooting of Williams, Goolsby retreated to his own residence, prompting the swift action of law enforcement officers. A perimeter was established around Goolsby’s residence, and support was provided by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, who deployed their armored vehicle to the scene. The U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force (CRFTF) also joined in the efforts, utilizing a robot in the search for Goolsby.

Amidst the tense situation, a glimmer of hope emerged as a ten-month-old child was discovered on the first floor of Goolsby’s residence. The child was swiftly rescued by members of the Statesville Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT), ensuring their safety in the midst of the chaos. As the search continued with the assistance of the robot, a heartbreaking discovery was made in an upstairs bedroom – the lifeless bodies of 36-year-old Brandi Delia Goolsby and Nicholas Goolsby. Evidence at the scene pointed towards Nicholas Goolsby having shot Brandi Goolsby before turning the gun on himself.

The tragic revelation that Simone Octavia Williams had been residing at the same residence as Nicholas and Brandi Goolsby added another layer of complexity to the already devastating situation. The ten-month-old child, who was found unharmed amidst the tragedy, was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and has since been entrusted into the care of family members.
