Just two days after a tragic incident in Noida Sector 53, where a 64-year-old retired All India Radio (AIR) employee lost his life after being hit by an Audi, the police have made a breakthrough in the case. Two men have been arrested for their alleged involvement, and the white Audi involved in the incident has been recovered by the authorities.
The car in question belonged to Pramod Kumar Singh, a resident of Gurgaon, Haryana. The vehicle was being driven by 24-year-old Luv Kumar, also known as Mamu, who had Prince Kumar, 28, as his companion at the time of the incident. It was revealed that Pramod had allowed one of his relatives to drive the Audi, who then passed on the car keys to Luv and Prince. Interestingly, Luv and Pramod are distant relatives, as confirmed by the police.
Luv and Prince Kumar, both residents of Palamu in Jharkhand, have been taken into custody by the police. The unfortunate event took place early on a Sunday morning when Janak Dev Shah ventured out from his home in Gijhor village to buy milk from a nearby shop. Tragically, he was struck by a speeding white car at a junction near Kanchenjunga market, resulting in his immediate demise.
The swift action of the police led to the recovery of the Audi from a multi-storey building parking area near AIIMS Delhi. Manish Kumar Mishra, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida, stated that intensive analysis of CCTV footage from nearly 150 locations in Noida and Delhi facilitated the identification and apprehension of the suspects. Pramod Kumar Singh, the vehicle owner, was located and questioned by the authorities.
Further investigations revealed that on the day of the incident, the duo had driven from Delhi to Noida for what was described as a “joyride” and coffee excursion. It was disclosed that a relative of Pramod had initially been behind the wheel of the Audi before passing it on to Luv and Prince, who were in Noida on that fateful day. The two individuals allegedly struck Janak Dev Shah and fled the scene, later parking the car in Delhi’s Kidwai Nagar.
Following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family, an FIR was registered against the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving). The CCTV footage capturing the incident went viral on social media, depicting the car hitting the elderly victim before speeding away.
This tragic event in Noida comes in the wake of another fatal incident involving a luxury car, specifically a Porsche, driven by a 17-year-old in Pune. The Pune incident resulted in the loss of two engineers’ lives. Authorities in Pune recently arrested two doctors and a staffer from the state-run Sassoon General Hospital for tampering with the blood sample of the minor driver, collected hours after the accident.
