Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting that led to this heartbreaking loss.
According to reports, emergency services received a call about a young woman, identified as Lily Basil, who had sustained a gunshot wound to her right shoulder. The caller, who was transporting Basil to the hospital, was instructed to pull over and wait for EMS assistance. Basil was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival, as per WSMV.
Investigators have identified the alleged shooter as 18-year-old Matthew Roufail. According to the arrest report, Roufail admitted to shooting Basil but claimed it was accidental. He reportedly believed the AR-15-style rifle he was handling was unloaded at the time of the incident.
