A heartbreaking incident unfolded over the weekend in Franklin, as 18-year-old Lily Basil, a recent high school graduate, lost her life in a shooting tragedy. The incident took place on Saturday night in the McKay’s Mill area, where Basil was struck in the right shoulder by a fatal shot from an AR-15. Despite being rushed to Vanderbilt Medical Center, she succumbed to her injuries.
Arrest Made in Connection with the Shooting
Following the tragic event, authorities arrested 18-year-old Matthew Roufail, who confessed to the shooting but claimed it was an accident. Roufail now faces charges of criminal homicide and was subsequently released from jail on a $150,000 bond.
Community Mourns the Loss
Lily Basil was a beloved member of the community and had recently graduated from Page High School. In her memory, the school will host a special vigil titled “Light the Night Memorial: Honoring the Life and Legacy of Lily Basil” on Friday, May 31, to pay tribute to her life.
