STATESVILLE, N.C. — Authorities in Statesville, North Carolina, are shedding light on a tragic murder-suicide case that unfolded last week in a quiet neighbourhood.

According to the Statesville Police Department, the incident took place around 7:15 a.m. on Friday when they received a distressing call about a shooting on Bunker Hill Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of 26-year-old Simone Octavia Williams, who had been fatally shot on the front porch of the caller’s residence.

A neighbour, Larry McCorkle, recounted to Channel 9 that he was awoken by one of the victims banging on his door early that morning. He described how the shooter then followed her and carried out the heinous act right outside his doorstep.

McCorkle vividly recalled the harrowing moment, stating, “By the time I got to the door, my wife was opening it, and I could hear her pleading, ‘please don’t do that, please don’t do that.’ Then I heard two gunshots and saw the suspect retreating across the yard.”

Investigators later identified the shooter as 39-year-old Nicholas Goolsby, who returned to his residence on the same street after the fatal shooting.

With the assistance of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, law enforcement officers surrounded Goolsby’s home and deployed a search robot upon entry.

During the search, authorities discovered a 10-month-old infant on the ground floor of the house. Thankfully, they were able to safely extract the baby and place them in the care of family members.

The search robot then uncovered two lifeless bodies in an upstairs bedroom, later identified as the shooter and 36-year-old Brandi Delia Goolsby, who resided in the same household. Subsequent investigations revealed that Williams also lived in the residence.

Detectives pieced together the sequence of events and concluded that Nicholas Goolsby had fatally shot Brandi Goolsby before taking his own life.

In a statement, the Statesville Police Department expressed their condolences to the Goolsby and Williams families during this trying time.
