Jamar Franklin Robinson : Police Reveal Identities in Shooting: Man Dead, Woman Injured

The male individual involved in the tragic incident that led to an officer-involved shooting in Newton early this morning has been identified by Newton Police. The deceased has been named as 33-year-old Jamar Franklin Robinson, a resident of Newton. Additionally, the female who was allegedly shot by Robinson has been identified as 38-year-old Heather Renee Clanton from Taylorsville. The identities of the officers involved in the incident have not been disclosed.

The unfortunate event took place around 12:35 a.m. today. The Catawba County Communications received a distress call from Ms. Clanton, reporting that she had been shot in the parking lot of the Catawba County Government Center. Ms. Clanton managed to leave the area and was later discovered in the parking lot of Planet Fitness on Northwest Boulevard. As emergency personnel and officers were attending to Ms. Clanton, Robinson arrived at the scene and opened fire, targeting the first responders.

In response to the imminent threat, officers fired back at the suspect, resulting in Robinson being hit. Both Robinson and Ms. Clanton sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte for urgent medical treatment. As per the latest update, Ms. Clanton is reported to be in a stable condition, while Robinson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the medical facility. Newton Police have confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other.
