Accident – Death – Obituary News : Atlantic Christian Academy of the Palm Beaches is facing a lawsuit after allegedly ignoring young children and downplaying a one-year-old’s injury. The parents of the child, identified as V.O., enrolled her in the academy with the expectation of a safe and nurturing environment. However, after just four months and a teacher’s prolonged absence without a replacement, their perception of the school drastically changed.

The incident occurred on January 20th, 2022, when V.O. reportedly collided with a desk while running unsupervised in the classroom. The school nurse attended to her, but according to the parents, downplayed the seriousness of the injury. Concerned father David Ottey observed a significant bump and cut on V.O.’s forehead and decided to take her to the hospital for evaluation. The nurse, who initially walked V.O. up and down the corridor to prevent her from falling asleep, eventually agreed with Ottey’s decision to seek medical attention.

As Ottey prepared to take V.O. to the hospital, he noticed she had become unresponsive. He sought help from the school nurse, who administered first aid techniques to revive her. An ambulance was called, and V.O. was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center as a trauma alert patient. Despite sustaining a small hematoma on her forehead, a CT scan revealed no intracranial abnormalities, and she was discharged later that day with instructions for close monitoring.

The lawsuit claims that V.O. suffered bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, emotional distress, and mental anguish as a result of the incident. The family’s attorneys, represented by Jack Hill of SearcyLaw, are seeking damages in excess of $50,000—the statutory minimum for filing a case in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. Atlantic Christian Academy has filed a response with the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts.

The school, located at 4900 Summit Blvd. in West Palm Beach, is now at the center of a legal battle over the alleged negligence that led to V.O.’s injury. The lawsuit highlights the importance of proper supervision and prompt medical attention in educational settings to ensure the safety and well-being of young children. As the case unfolds, the community awaits further developments in this troubling incident..
