Authorities in California have apprehended an 81-year-old man accused of causing havoc in his neighbourhood for nearly a decade with a slingshot. The suspect, identified as Prince King, was taken into custody in Azusa, a city located approximately 25 miles east of Los Angeles.
Mr. King, described by police as a “serial slingshot shooter”, was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at his residence. Law enforcement officers discovered a slingshot and ball bearings, believed to have been used in the attacks, during the search.
According to Azusa police Lt Jake Bushey, Mr. King’s motive for the malicious activities remains unclear. The disturbances first came to light when residents in the 900 block of North Enid Avenue reported ongoing incidents involving a slingshot.
Reports revealed that numerous individuals had been targeted by the slingshot shooter, resulting in damage to property such as windows and car windscreens. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the attacks.
Lt Bushey explained that the incidents had persisted for many years due to the perpetrator remaining unidentified. Detectives suspected that most of the shots originated from Mr. King’s backyard.
Although authorities believe that the attacks were not random, they are uncertain as to why certain individuals and properties were targeted. Mr. King is scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday, facing a felony charge and currently being held without bail at the county’s men’s central jail.
The arrest of the slingshot-wielding pensioner marks the end of a lengthy campaign of “malicious mischief” that had plagued the neighbourhood for nearly a decade.
