Accident – Death – Obituary News :

It may seem like a scene straight out of the dystopian series “Black Mirror,” but China’s latest demonstration of robotics in warfare is very real. During recent military exercises with Cambodia, China unveiled a robot dog equipped with an automatic rifle mounted on its back, transforming this electronic companion into a formidable killing machine.

Soldier Chen Wei stated, “It can serve as a new member in our urban combat operations, replacing our human members to conduct reconnaissance, identify the enemy, and strike the target.” The capabilities of this robot dog were showcased in a video released by state broadcaster CCTV during the China-Cambodia “Golden Dragon 2024” exercise.

The video demonstrates the robot dog’s ability to walk, hop, lie down, and move backward under the remote control of an operator. In one scenario, the rifle-firing robot dog leads an infantry unit into a simulated building, showcasing its potential in combat situations.

Additionally, the video highlights an automatic rifle mounted under a six-rotor aerial drone, illustrating China’s wide array of intelligent unmanned equipment. This display of military robotics is not a novel concept, as China has previously showcased rifle-armed electronic canines in joint exercises with other countries.

In 2020, the U.S. Air Force also demonstrated the use of robotic dogs as part of its Advanced Battle Management System, incorporating artificial intelligence and rapid data analytics to enhance military capabilities and counter threats to US assets.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, drones have become integral to modern warfare, proving to be effective equalizers on the battlefield. The lethal capabilities of drones have shown their potential in combat situations, enabling military forces with limited resources to compete with better-equipped adversaries.

Despite China’s prominence as a leading drone exporter, the country implemented export controls on drone technology last year to safeguard national security interests. However, the deployment of robotic dogs in military exercises with foreign nations indicates a significant advancement in their development.

According to the state-run Global Times, the presence of robotic dogs in joint exercises suggests a high level of technical maturity. The publicity surrounding China’s robotic dogs on social media platforms indicates the country’s commitment to advancing its military capabilities through innovative technology.
