Munendra Singh : “Family Tragedy: Couple Killed, Daughter Dead, Son Injured in Almora Gorge Plunge”

A devastating incident took place in Almora, Uttarakhand, as a family met with a fatal accident, resulting in the loss of three lives and leaving one child injured. The victims have been identified as Munendra Singh, his wife Shashi Saini, and their nine-year-old daughter Aditi. The couple’s 11-year-old son, Arnav, survived the ordeal but sustained injuries in the tragic incident.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 9 am when the family was on their way from Roorkee to Devghat. The car they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a 300-metre-deep gorge, leaving the car severely damaged. Upon receiving information about the accident, the Almora State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team rushed to the scene to rescue the victims.

Almora SDRF inspector Rajesh Joshi shared, “When our team arrived at the site, we found the car had fallen into the gorge. The couple and their daughter had succumbed to their injuries, while their son, Arnav, was still conscious and calling out for help. We immediately rescued him and rushed him to Almora Hospital for treatment.”

Despite the efforts of the rescue team, Munendra Singh, Shashi Saini, and Aditi could not survive the injuries sustained in the accident and were declared dead at the scene. The authorities have contacted the family’s relatives in Roorkee, who are on their way to Almora to claim the bodies after the completion of the post-mortem.

It is believed that the family, residents of Mohanpura in Civil Line, Roorkee, was en route to Almora for a sightseeing trip. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and the district police are conducting investigations to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.

In the wake of this heartbreaking event, district authorities have issued a reminder to tourists to ensure that their drivers are experienced in navigating hilly terrains to prevent such accidents in the future.
