Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded at the Law College campus of Patna University on Monday, May 27, 2024, when a final year student was brutally lynched by a group of over 10 unidentified individuals. The assailants used hockey sticks, iron rods, bricks, and sticks to carry out the vicious attack, resulting in the untimely death of the victim, identified as Harsh Raj, a student of the Functional English Vocational Course at B N College.

The 22-year-old student had just completed his exams and was exiting the campus when he was ambushed near the auditorium. Suffering from a severe head injury, Harsh was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where he was tragically pronounced dead. Hailing from Vaishali district, the victim resided in a rented accommodation in the Boring Canal Road locality.

Eye-witnesses, including Harsh’s friend Bahu Kumar, recounted the harrowing incident, stating that the attackers targeted Harsh and inflicted fatal blows. Bahu Kumar managed to escape the onslaught, but Harsh was unable to evade the violent mob. The perpetrators, many of whom concealed their identities, swiftly apprehended Harsh, leading to the fatal outcome.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a close friend of the deceased speculated that the motive behind the brutal attack could be linked to Harsh’s intention to contest the upcoming Patna University Student’s Union (PUSU) election. Known for his active involvement in social causes and his altruistic efforts during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, Harsh garnered significant support among his peers. Operating an organisation named Lok Nayak Yuva Parishad, Harsh had established a commendable reputation within the student community.

In the wake of the tragic incident, Harsh’s father, Ajit Kumar, a local journalist, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against more than a dozen suspects. Expressing his anguish, Mr. Kumar revealed that he had cautioned his son against participating in the PUSU election, but Harsh remained resolute in his decision. Furthermore, Harsh had actively campaigned for the candidate Shambhavi Kunal Choudhary during the recent Lok Sabha elections in Samastipur.

Reacting to the devastating loss, Ms. Choudhary issued a heartfelt statement, condemning the heinous act and urging the authorities to swiftly apprehend the culprits responsible for Harsh’s demise. The Vice-Chancellor of Patna University, Professor K.C. Sinha, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic event and promptly announced the suspension of all ongoing examinations until further notice.

Despite ongoing investigations and efforts to identify the perpetrators through CCTV footage, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The authorities are conducting extensive inquiries and raids to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide closure for the grieving family and community..
