A 55-year-old businessman, Vinod Mishra, was arrested on Monday in Lucknow for allegedly assaulting a man with the butt of his licensed pistol after his SUV was hit from behind by another vehicle in the Gomti Nagar area of the city. The incident came to light after a video of the assault went viral on social media.
The police took immediate action and registered a case against Mishra at the Vibhuti Khand police station. He was charged under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 151 (breach of peace) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Mishra was produced in court and subsequently sent to judicial custody, as confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Anindya Vikram Singh.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kumawat stated that the video showed Mishra allegedly beating a youth with the butt of a pistol. The victim, Ranjeet Shukla, a private driver, was driving back from the Chinhat area when his Maruti WagonR collided with Mishra’s Tata Safari. A heated argument ensued, leading to Mishra threatening and assaulting Shukla with his weapon.
The police launched an inquiry into the matter after the video surfaced online, and Mishra was swiftly apprehended. The authorities are taking the incident seriously and ensuring that justice is served.
