The Bonnyville RCMP had a hectic period from May 16 to May 24, dealing with a total of 165 investigations, which included several notable incidents and arrests.

Search Warrant Execution Leads to Drug Trafficking Charges

On May 16, the Bonnyville RCMP carried out a search warrant at a property on 51 Street in Bonnyville. The search revealed crystal methamphetamine, a firearm, other weapons, and evidence pointing towards illegal drug sales. Subsequently, 52-year-old Aaron Bucholz from Bonnyville was charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, unsafe storage of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Bucholz appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was released to appear in court on June 4.

Arrest Made After Attempted Break-In

In the early hours of May 17, at 1:30 am, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a residence on the 4800 block of 49 Ave following reports of a male suspect attempting to break into the property. The suspect was heard shouting death threats to the residents and causing damage to the door and windows. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Calo Berland from Bonnyville, was located nearby and arrested. Berland was charged with four counts of uttering threats, two counts of mischief under $5,000, and one count of disobeying a court order. Despite breaching a court order, Berland was released and is due to appear in court on June 18.

Chaos at Sportsman Trailer Park

Later on May 17, at 9:45 pm, Bonnyville RCMP received reports of a pickup truck causing havoc in the Sportsman Trailer Park, colliding with trailers and narrowly missing pedestrians. The driver, 55-year-old Barrydene Pasos from Bonnyville, was suspected to be impaired but refused to provide a breath sample. Pasos was arrested and charged with driving impaired, refusing to comply with a breath demand, dangerous operation of a vehicle, three counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. Pasos was released on bail and is set to appear in court on June 4.

National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day Results

On May 18, the Bonnyville RCMP took part in National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, conducting five check stops and interacting with 74 vehicles/drivers. The operation led to three provincial sanctions for impaired driving and one criminal code charge for impaired driving.

Arson Incident in Kehewin

On May 20, RCMP responded to a residence in Kehewin where a male had set his house on fire. The Kehewin Fire Department acted swiftly to prevent complete destruction of the property, although it did suffer substantial smoke damage. 49-year-old Dennis Watchmaker from Kehewin was charged with arson. Watchmaker was released and is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on June 18.
