Accident – Death – Obituary News : Four motorcycle thieves, including a 17-year-old boy, were apprehended by the Coimbatore police on Saturday in a significant breakthrough. The authorities also managed to recover a total of 12 stolen motorcycles from the culprits, bringing relief to the victims of these crimes.
The individuals arrested were identified as A Suryaprakash, S Manoj, aged 25, and a 17-year-old juvenile, all of whom were daily wage workers hailing from Velandipalayam in Coimbatore city. Additionally, A Azharuddin, 24, from Thadagam in Coimbatore district was also taken into custody in connection with the motorcycle theft racket.
According to police reports, Suryaprakash, Manoj, and the minor accomplice were involved in the theft of motorcycles from various locations including RS Puram, Variety Hall Road, and Saibaba Colony. They would then pass on the stolen vehicles to Azharuddin, who would pay them a meagre sum of 2,500 rupees for each motorcycle. Azharuddin, in turn, would pledge the stolen bikes to others for a higher price ranging from 4,500 to 5,000 rupees.
A senior police official revealed, “The three suspects carried more than 20 counterfeit bike keys, which they utilised to swiftly unlock parked vehicles and make a quick getaway on the stolen motorcycles. Our investigative team meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from RS Puram police station limits, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspects, including the juvenile offender. Subsequently, we were able to recover the stolen motorcycles from their possession.”
The juvenile was presented before the juvenile justice board on Sunday and subsequently placed in an observation home for juveniles. On the other hand, the remaining three accused individuals have been remanded to the Coimbatore central prison as the investigation continues to unfold.
