Accident – Death – Obituary News : YUMA, Ariz. (AP) — A Yuma resident has been apprehended for allegedly igniting a wildfire in a national wildlife preserve in southwest Arizona near the California border, as per authorities.

Yuma County Sheriff’s officials have reported that 47-year-old Jason Bradley Martin is currently detained on suspicion of arson, criminal damage, and other related charges.

The arrest of Martin was made public on Saturday evening after he was identified as a suspect in the case. As of Sunday, no attorney has been listed for Martin on the county’s jail website.

The wildfire was first reported around 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary established in 1941 to safeguard 30 miles (48 kilometers) of predominantly wetland habitat along the Lower Colorado River.

Officials have disclosed that the fire is currently 20% contained after scorching nearly 2 square miles (5 square kilometers) of vegetation on the Arizona side of the Colorado River in Yuma County.

Various agencies, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the federal Bureau of Land Management, were swiftly dispatched to the scene to provide support to firefighting crews on Saturday.
