Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 26-year-old man from Rome, Georgia, has been taken into custody after allegedly intentionally starting a house fire that resulted in the death of his stepmother. The tragic incident took place on Saturday night at a residence on Addington Court in Floyd County.

According to reports, Rome police received a distress call about a blazing fire at the property around 9:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a woman was trapped inside the burning house, with flames engulfing the structure.

Authorities at the scene identified the suspect as Timothy Edward Lary, who was found shirtless on the side of the road. The homeowner, who is also Lary’s father, pointed him out to the officers, accusing him of setting the fire that claimed his wife’s life.

When questioned by the police, Lary admitted to starting the fire, confirming the suspicions of the homeowner. It was revealed that the motive behind the arson was Lary’s belief that he should inherit the property, which was rented by his father and stepmother from Lary’s mother.

The father explained to law enforcement that his son had been in a volatile state throughout the day, expressing anger and resentment towards the family’s living arrangements. Allegedly, Lary had threatened to burn down the house earlier in the day, claiming ownership of the lot.

Witnesses stated that Lary set fire to papers and threw them onto a mattress in his room, igniting the blaze that ultimately led to the tragic loss of life. Despite attempts to evacuate the property, the victim, a 70-year-old woman, along with two cats and a dog, were unable to escape the inferno.

Lary has been charged with a range of offences including neglect of a disabled adult or elder person, cruelty to animals, arson, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, and murder. He is currently being held at the Floyd County Jail pending further legal proceedings.

This devastating incident has shocked the local community and serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless and malicious actions. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy.
