Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A resident of Roseburg found himself behind bars on drug charges and other offenses following a dramatic elude incident on Thursday.

According to a report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded just after 11:45 a.m. when a sedan overtook a deputy on Highway 99 in Dillard. The deputy noted a traffic violation and attempted to catch up with the vehicle, but it quickly accelerated to a high speed.

The sedan made a sharp right turn onto Fourth Street while the deputy was still in pursuit. The deputy estimated the vehicle’s speed to be around 70 miles per hour, clearly indicating an attempt to evade law enforcement. The chase continued as the sedan turned onto Fifth Street from Reason Avenue. The deputy activated his lights and siren, prompting the vehicle to pull into a driveway on Fifth Street.

Upon stopping the sedan, the driver, later identified as 57-year-old John Bedford, reportedly fled on foot through a backyard. After a thorough search, Bedford was eventually found hiding in an RV by a Winston Police Department officer and K9 Nike, and was apprehended without resistance.

During a search of the vehicle, a significant quantity of methamphetamine was discovered in plain sight. A search warrant was obtained and executed, leading to the seizure of three-quarters of a pound of meth, an excessive amount of mushrooms, digital scales, and other drug-related paraphernalia.

Bedford now faces charges including attempting to elude a police officer on foot, unlawful distribution and possession of meth, reckless driving, and a parole violation. His bail has been set at £350,000.
