WALDORF, Md. – A tragic incident unfolded on Monday, May 27, 2024, at around 5:46 am when Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack received a distressing report of an individual lying in the median of Maryland Route 5 (Leonardtown Road) near Lakewood Place.
The male victim, identified as Terry Anthony Dorch, aged 54 and a resident of Waldorf, was pronounced dead at the scene. The presence of car parts near the victim hinted at a hit-and-run scenario, prompting the Maryland State Police CRASH Team to take charge of the investigation.
Preliminary findings from the MSP La Plata Barrack and the MSP CRASH Team suggest that an unidentified year/model Ford vehicle was travelling in the first lane of northbound Maryland Route 5 near Lakewood Place. Simultaneously, Mr. Dorch was walking in the same lane when he was struck by the vehicle, which failed to stop at the scene. The collision is believed to have occurred during the night, with a left side mirror from the vehicle being discovered at the site. This mirror is commonly found on Ford Superduty, Expeditions, and Excursion models.
