A Laurinburg resident has been arrested for allegedly shooting his mother and killing a pet during a disturbing incident that took place on Saturday evening in North Carolina.
Disturbance Reported
The incident unfolded on Saturday, May 25, at approximately 5:40 p.m. when officers from the Laurinburg Police Department were called to 730 North Gill Street to investigate an unknown disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers heard a female voice screaming from inside the residence, prompting them to enter the property to assess the situation.
Shocking Discovery
Inside the home, officers discovered a woman with severe head injuries and a pet dog lying lifeless on the floor, both apparent victims of gunshot wounds.
The injured woman was quickly transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to a more specialized medical facility where she remains in critical condition.
Suspect identified
The suspect in this tragic incident has been identified as 26-year-old Audie Ray Jacobs, Jr, who is believed to be the son of the victim.
Jacobs has since been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Felony Cruelty to Animals, and is currently being held at the Scotland County Detention Center.
