A man was taken into custody in Mumbai after a video went viral on social media showing him lying on the bonnet of a BMW being driven by a 17-year-old boy, with the boy’s father also facing arrest, according to police reports on Monday.

The individual in the viral video has been identified as Subham Matalia, who can be seen reclining on the bonnet of the BMW while the teenager drives the vehicle through the bustling streets of the Shivaji Chowk area in Mumbai’s Kalyan. Pedestrians and other motorists who captured the footage were stunned by the spectacle as Matalia relaxed on the bonnet with his legs outstretched, clearly enjoying the ride.

The BMW in question is registered under the teenager’s father’s name. Both Matalia, aged 21, and the father of the young driver have been apprehended by Kalyan Police. The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.

This incident has occurred in the wake of a recent tragedy involving a Porsche being operated by a 17-year-old in Pune, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Authorities assert that the teenager, who is the son of a prominent builder in Pune, was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Following public outcry over the swift bail granted to the teenager within 15 hours of his detention, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has ordered the accused to be placed in a remand home for 14 days, until June 5. The minor’s father has also been remanded into police custody.
