Accident – Death – Obituary News :

ERIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) – Alcohol and speeding are both believed to be factors in a tragic fatal crash that occurred on Saturday evening in Monroe County.

The Monroe County sheriff’s office reported that a Trenton man lost his life after being sideswiped by a 55-year-old driver from Ohio who was reportedly speeding northbound on I-75.

The incident took place near Erie Township at approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 25th.

According to witnesses, the suspect was driving a 2005 white Chevrolet Malibu at a high speed in the right northbound lane of the highway before merging into the middle lane. The collision with the motorcycle caused it to veer into the median concrete barrier wall and slide along the shoulder of the highway.

Tragically, the 49-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the hospital following the crash.

Although the driver of the Malibu escaped injury, he was arrested and taken into custody at the Monroe County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing death.

He is set to be arraigned before a judge in Monroe County district court in the coming days.

Authorities have stated that both alcohol consumption and excessive speed are believed to have played a significant role in the fatal incident.
