Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A Hot Springs resident, Brad Austin Brown, 26, was arrested on Thursday night on a felony battery charge after confessing to assaulting his 63-year-old father by repeatedly punching him in the face, as per police reports.

Brown, a parolee, resides at 119 Disney St. and was apprehended at his home just before 9 p.m. He faces a charge of second-degree domestic battery, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison due to the age of the victim, his father.

Aside from the felony charge, Brown also had a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear. Initially, he was held on a zero bond, but after pleading not guilty to the charge in Garland County District Court on Friday, his bond was reduced to $7,500. A felony review hearing has been scheduled for July 19, and he remains in custody as of Friday afternoon.

Court records indicate that Brown was previously convicted on April 16, 2019, for residential burglary, theft of property involving a firearm, and fleeing. He was sentenced to five years in prison but was released on parole.

Details of the Incident

According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident took place around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, prompting a response from Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Colleen Smith to the Disney Street residence following a report of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, Deputy Smith encountered Brown standing at the end of the driveway. Brown admitted to getting into an argument with his father, leading to a physical altercation where he punched his father. The victim was found near a van at the top of the driveway with visible redness, swelling on both sides of his face, and blood coming from his nose. He informed Deputy Smith that the blood on his hands, pants, and arms was from his nose.

During questioning, the father recounted that the argument with his son escalated into violence, with Brown losing control and striking him in the face three times, causing the injuries observed by the deputy.

Brown was then taken into custody without any further incident and transported to the detention center.
