The Pune police have apprehended two medical professionals from Sassoon General Hospital for allegedly tampering with blood samples and destroying evidence in a car accident case involving a 17-year-old boy, according to officials on Monday.
Among the arrested individuals is the head of the hospital’s forensic department, identified as Dr Ajay Taware and Shrihari Harnor, a senior police official stated. The investigation is currently under the jurisdiction of the crime branch.
The incident in question occurred in the early hours of May 19, where two IT professionals tragically lost their lives after a speeding Porsche, reportedly operated by the minor, collided with their motorcycle. The police have asserted that the teenager was intoxicated at the time of the collision.
Initially, the juvenile was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board, which imposed the task of composing an essay on road accidents. However, public outcry over the perceived leniency of the decision prompted a reevaluation by the authorities, resulting in the boy’s transfer to an observation home until June 5.
In connection with the accident, the teenager’s father, a real estate agent, and his grandfather have also been taken into custody by law enforcement.
