A 61-year-old man has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting multiple people at a residence in San Fernando and even firing at a police helicopter during a standoff. The incident occurred late Saturday night on the 900 block of Orange Grove Avenue, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Police Response and Discovery of Victims
Authorities were alerted to the situation around 11:20 p.m. and quickly arrived at the scene. Lieutenant Walter Dominguez of the San Fernando Police Department confirmed that officers found the suspect barricaded inside his home after reports of several shooting victims. Upon further investigation, four individuals with gunshot wounds were located at the residence, with a fifth victim self-transporting to a nearby hospital.
Escalation with Law Enforcement
As the standoff unfolded, the suspect allegedly targeted a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter that was providing aerial support to the ground units. This dangerous escalation prompted a joint effort from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, and Los Angeles police departments.
Arrest and Charges
The suspect, identified as Martin Rodriguez from San Fernando, was eventually apprehended with the collaborative efforts of officers and deputies. Rodriguez now faces a slew of charges, including seven counts of attempted murder, criminal threats, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and shooting at an aircraft. His bail has been set at £9.8 million.
