FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — A 26-year-old man from Rome, Georgia, was taken into custody by authorities after allegedly deliberately starting a fire that engulfed a house in flames. The incident took place on Addington Court at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, prompting a swift response from Rome police.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers were informed that a woman was trapped inside the burning residence, with flames visibly emanating from the roof and front door. The suspect, identified as Timothy Edward Lary, 26, was found shirtless on the side of the road by law enforcement.

According to reports, the homeowner approached the officers and accused Lary of setting the fire, expressing a desire for his arrest. When questioned by the police, Lary admitted to starting the blaze, confirming the homeowner’s allegations.

The father of the suspect disclosed to the authorities that Lary had been displaying signs of anger throughout the day, eventually leading to the destructive outburst. The family rented the property from Lary’s mother, who he believed should transfer ownership to him, prompting resentment and conflict within the household.

Prior to the arson, Lary reportedly made threats to burn down the house while the occupants were away. He proceeded to ignite papers and set fire to a mattress in his room, resulting in the tragic loss of life. The victim, a 70-year-old woman, along with two cats and a dog, perished in the fire.

Following his arrest, Lary faces a multitude of charges, including neglect of a disabled adult or elder person, cruelty to animals, arson, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, and murder. He has been remanded to the Floyd County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
