Suspect Accused of Shooting Multiple People and Firing at LAPD Helicopter
A 61-year-old man, Martin Rodriguez, has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting several people at a residence in San Fernando and later firing at an LAPD helicopter during a barricade, according to police reports.
Incident Details
Police officers responded to reports of multiple shooting victims on the 900 block of Orange Grove Avenue around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, they found four gunshot victims at the scene, with a fifth victim later showing up at a nearby hospital.
Suspect’s Actions
During the standoff, the suspect is believed to have targeted the Los Angeles Police Department helicopter that was providing aerial support to the officers on the ground, as per Lt. Walter Dominguez of the San Fernando Police Department.
Arrest and Charges
With the assistance of officers and deputies from various law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, and Los Angeles police departments, Martin Rodriguez was eventually apprehended. He now faces seven counts of attempted murder, criminal threats, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and shooting at an aircraft. His bail has been set at £9.8 million.
