A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges following an incident at a Walmart in Evansville, Indiana. Jose Daniel Vasquez-Gutierrez was found passed out behind the wheel of his Chevy Cruze in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police were alerted to the scene at around 2:45 a.m. after reports of a vehicle driving off the road and coming to a stop in the grass outside the store on Burkhardt Road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Gutierrez asleep in the driver’s seat with the car still in drive. Despite attempts to wake him, he remained unresponsive until officers used a translation app to communicate with him in Spanish.
Authorities noted that Gutierrez appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, with glossy eyes and a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He subsequently failed several field sobriety tests and registered a blood alcohol content of .187 on a portable breath test.
During questioning, Gutierrez confessed to consuming three shots of tequila before getting behind the wheel. It was also revealed that he did not possess a valid driver’s license.
As a result, Jose Daniel Vasquez-Gutierrez was taken into custody and booked at Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Operating Without Ever Obtaining License.
