A reckless driver who led police on a dangerous pursuit in Evansville, Indiana, is now behind bars in the Vanderburgh County Jail. The incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on a Saturday night, according to the Evansville Police Department.

The chaos began when an EPD officer was responding to an accident near the intersection of St. Joseph and Franklin Street. Suddenly, two speeding vehicles zoomed past the officer, catching their attention.

The officer attempted to pull over the vehicles, but one of them refused to stop and turned onto W. Indiana Street. identified as 21-year-old Dakota B. Greenwood, the driver proceeded to ignore multiple stop signs and escalate the situation into a dangerous chase.

Concerned for public safety, the police decided to terminate the pursuit when Greenwood began speeding on Illinois Street. However, it wasn’t long before they caught up with Greenwood, who had come to a stop in traffic at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Walnut Street.

The EPD officer instructed Greenwood to turn off his vehicle and extend his hands out of the window. Upon being apprehended, Greenwood expressed regret, admitting, “I should’ve just stopped,” and revealing that he was feeling anxious and already had a previous ticket.

Further investigation revealed that Greenwood, who had a prior conviction for driving without insurance, was once again operating his vehicle without proper insurance coverage. The Evansville Police Department condemned Greenwood’s reckless actions, citing the significant risk he posed to others on the road.

As a result of his reckless behaviour, Greenwood was taken into custody and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail without the option of posting bond. He now faces charges including Resisting Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, and Operating without Insurance Prior.
